The papers takes into account some Italian books for early childhood and primary school devoted to teach first elements of foreign languages (and particularly English) to our pupils. Books analysed have been chosen among tales, school-books, first dictionaries. The outcome of the analysis: Italian school.books for young Readers, with few excellent exceptions, are still related to a past traditional approach to foreign languages and are not pervaded by the necessary consciousness of an intercultural world.
