Abstract

Field experiments we carried out in Tuscany (Italy) to evaluate the performance of the ARIES-C weather radar. As a preliminary analysis, ARIES-C was compared with rainfall maps derived by a dense rain gauges network. Radar data were adjusted by a single calibration factor to test the improvement in performances. Preliminary analysis showed a rather good skill score for the for the original data. By applying a smoothing filter on the radar images, radar performances were significantly improved.
