The Olevano’s cave is a perfect example of cultural landscape, due to the unusual link between the human work and the environment. The context around the cave is untouched and the landscape is dominated by the roughness of the stones and the vigour of the local vegetation. The tracks to reach the cave are several and defined by various landscape characteristics (olive cultivations, streams, etc.): inside the wood they rejoin in steps that get to the entrance of the cave.More than one thousand years ago, the presence of this surprising cave produced the nearby settlement of a fertile monastic community.The five chapels built around the X Century inside this sanctuary are stern architectures, revived by valuable XI Century frescos.Faith, art, history, culture and nature mixed together in a site worthy of UNESCO word heritage status. Unfortunately the valorization of the site is slowed down by the lack of economic and technical tools. The interventions carried out since 1988 were limited due to the difficult access and the fragility of the geomorphological system of the landscape. New motivation to its enhancement were highlighted through the research developed by the Centre DIAPReM of the University of Ferrara. The survey carried out inside the cave provides relevant data regarding the geomorphological structure:information necessary to define the intervention of restoration.
