In this work a new sucralfate gel-based product containing cidofovir was studied to be sprayed on mucosal and/or skin lesions. The product, named therapeutic paint, was characterized in vitro with respect to compatibility between drug and carrier, drug content and release, spray characteristics. The therapeutic paint was then tested in vivo on lambs experimentally infected with orf, to evaluate the antiviral efficacy of CID administered in this form.
