The Goro lagoon is part of the Po delta and is separated from the sea by a spit, which determines the hydrosedimentary dynamics. During the last century the spit was abandoned, destroyed, and re-constructed several times because of the development of newer spits seawards. Today it shows a branched growth style. The study examines the growth of the small ramifications that most of the time bend and rejoin quickly the shoreline but in some cases can grow up to become the new direction of growth of the spit. Because there are multiple factors involved and the occurring conditions are not easy to interpret, it was decided to create a diagram of the system on the basis of results from conducted surveys. The results of preliminary numerical simulations conducted represent well the tendency of these forms to grow and expand and explain also why they recurve and rejoin the shore when a certain length is reached. This research allows thus to make the first and reliable hypotheses about the evolution of these small ramifications.
