The heavy-precipitation event that occurred on October 5-7, 1998 over the Triveneto region of northern Italy, has been used here to test a combined radar-model-SSM/I retrieval technique, in which ground radar estimations of vertical cloud contents are used in conjunction with a cloud model in order to generate a cloud-radiation database to be used by a SSM/I precipitation retrieval algorithm for the event.
