This paper will summarize recent findings on the role that nociceptin/orphanin FQ (N/OFQ) in the substantia nigra (SN) exerts in the control of local neurotransmission and motor behaviour. In addition, new data regarding N/OFQ modulation of nigral serotonin (5-HT) release will be presented.
