In unilateral structural analysis, the equilibrium problem can be formulated as a minimum problem for a convex functional over a closed convex set. The functional may be either coercive or semi-coercive. In the second case, minimizers do exist only for some particular loads, called \textit{statically admissible}. Sufficient conditions for statical admissibility are available in the literature; here, under some restrictive assumptions peculiar of linear structural analysis, I obtain a condition which is both necessary and sufficient, and has a direct mechanical interpretation.

Abstract
In unilateral structural analysis, the equilibrium problem can be formulated as a minimum problem for a convex functional over a closed convex set. The functional may be either coercive or semi-coercive. In the second case, minimizers do exist only for some particular loads, called \textit{statically admissible}. Sufficient conditions for statical admissibility are available in the literature; here, under some restrictive assumptions peculiar of linear structural analysis, I obtain a condition which is both necessary and sufficient, and has a direct mechanical interpretation.File in questo prodotto:
